Artist, gleaner, mender Ruth Katzenstein Souza will guide us in a layered discussion-mending circle as we explore the stories in and of our clothing. Stories keep us alive and connected to who we are. Each of us has a closet full of stories, literal and metaphorical. We might not wear some of our clothing yet they hold memories and meaning. Perhaps they remind us of a person, a place, or a time. Or maybe they are infused with other meaning. Why is the story so important?

Please bring an item of clothing to mend that has a resonance for you. We’ll explore why each of us chose our pieces and why we want to mend it? Why is it still “alive” for you? If you haven’t saved the item, what do you remember of it? Let’s get at the roots of the stories we tell ourselves about our clothing and ourselves. If nothing in particular comes to mind, bring something that you want to extend the life of, keeping things out of the landfill is an important transformational act. Repairing rather than discarding is empowering. Join us for an afternoon of exploring and being in community. 

We will have some supplies for you to use, but please bring a small sewing kit with scissors, needles, thread and fabric.
